If you wanna remove a status update, tap the three dots next to it in the Status tab and hit delete. Done and done.
To remove channels from WhatsApp Status, go to the Status tab, find the status you want to remove, tap the 3 dots next to it, and select 'Delete'.
You can't remove channels, only your own status updates.
