Try disabling unread message badge in your notification settings. Click on the settings icon, then Notifications, and toggle off the 'Unread Message Badge'.

You can remove that pesky red dot by marking all messages as read. Just right-click the server icon in the server list and select 'Mark As Read'.

I just go through each channel and check the unread messages manually. Hit that 'Mark As Read' button per channel!
