Why bother? Just mute 'em.
To remove someone from Facebook Messenger, open the Messenger app, go to your chats, find the conversation with the person you want to remove, tap on their name at the top, then tap ‘Remove Contact’. Simple as that!
From personal experience, just unfriending or blocking them on Facebook itself does the trick. Out of sight, out of mind!
