How to Smelt Copper in Valheim
First, make a Smelter using 20 stone and 5 surtling cores. Then, mine copper ore with a pickaxe and bring it back to smelt in the Smelter using coal as fuel!

Grab yourself a pickaxe, go mining in the Black Forest for copper deposits, and then use a Smelter to turn it into shiny copper bars.
Find copper in the Black Forest, make sure you've got a Smelter set up, and don't forget the coal! Easy peasy.
Mining copper can be tedious but totally worth it! Once you've got your copper ore, feed it into a Smelter powered by coal to craft copper bars.
Just mine copper ore and smelt it. Simple as that.
