How to Spare Royal Guards in Undertale?
To spare the Royal Guards (RG 01 and RG 02) in Undertale, you need to interact with them individually. Start by choosing to Clean Armor for RG 02, which will cause his armor to become hot and he'll start sweating. Once his armor becomes clean, move on to RG 01 and Whisper to him. This will reveal how they're feeling, making them more vulnerable. After you've done both actions, you can spare them!

I struggled too at first, but here's the trick: Clean Armor for RG 02 to make him sweaty, then talk to RG 01 with Whisper to find out how he feels. Only then, they'll be ready for sparing.
Forget about fighting – just Clean RG 02's armor and Whisper to RG 01. Done and done.
