You can also get a letter from the spiders in Hotland's Spider Bake Sale and show it to Muffet. She'll stop attacking you immediately.
Just survive long enough without attacking her, and eventually an item from the Ruins' Spider Bake Sale will be mentioned. When that happens, she'll let you go.
