You wanna see some aliens? For the Martian Madness event to kick off, you gotta let the Martians scout you out first. So here's the deal: get yourself to the outer two-thirds of the map - doesn't matter if it's east or west. Then, just hang around until a Martian Probe zooms by. Don't smash it! Let it spot you and turn red, then it'll zoom off to bring the invasion. Keep your blasters ready, cause it's about to get wild.
Honestly, just wait for the probe and don't kill it. People overcomplicate it. That's literally it.
