Actually, you can't just 'sprint' in Terraria like you might in other games by holding down a button. But, you can go faster! You'll need to snag yourself some Hermes Boots or other similar items that increase your movement speed. Just put them on, and when you start walking, you'll pick up speed and essentially 'sprint.' Keep an eye out for Flurry Boots in the Ice biome or the Sailfish Boots from wooden crates if fishing is more your style!
Who needs sprinting? Just grapple everywhere. Much cooler.
