Condition, condition, condition! I found a rare card in my attic once and was so stoked - until I realized it was all bent up. Hard lesson learned, but if it's in good shape, you might just have a goldmine.
First up, check the rarity symbol at the bottom corner of the card - a circle means common, a diamond means uncommon, and a star means rare or even super rare. Also, ye gotta look out for holographic or full art cards, those can be worth more. Condition is key too; any bends, scratches, or fading can drop a card's value faster than you can say 'Pikachu, I choose you!' Don't forget, special editions or cards from the first editions are usually more valuable. Finally, use online price guides or check out what similar cards are going for on auction sites!
Hate to break it to ya, but unless you got first editions or some shiny holographics, you're probably not sitting on a treasure chest. Most cards are just cool to have, not worth loads of cash.
