I've unfriended people by accident, so be careful! But yeah, just go to their profile, click 'Friends,' and unfriend them from there.
From your feed, you can also click on the three dots next to one of their posts, then select 'Unfriend.' Quick and painless.
Why not just unfollow? You won't see their posts but stay friends. Win-win!
