In Super Smash Bros Brawl, characters don't have traditional upgrades. But you can unlock new moves and abilities by playing through Subspace Emissary and collecting stickers to boost stats!
No upgrades here! Just pure skill and button mashing!
You can't upgrade characters in the traditional sense, but you can unlock new characters and stages by playing through the various game modes.
