Art says it all; Brook was not black when he was alive. He's a skeleton with an epic afro, singing sea shanties and chilling with the Straw Hats.

Brook's race isn't explicitly stated, but considering he was a human turned into a living skeleton, his ethnicity before his transformation seems to be of a lighter complexion, judging by his original appearance shown in flashbacks.

Nah, Brook isn't black. He's a skeleton now, but before that he was just a pale dude with an afro. The afro might confuse some, but it's all about that musical soul!

Brook's a skeleton, yohoho! But for real, race or ethnicity isn't really a thing for him since he's just bones now. But pre-skeleton, he was not black.
