Nah, they're different! Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) tell different versions of the Elric brothers' story. Brotherhood is the one to watch if you want the manga's full storyline. Enjoy!

Hey there! Nope, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood aren't the same. The original Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) started before the manga was finished, so it diverges into its own storyline mid-series. Brotherhood (2009), on the other hand, sticks closer to the manga and covers the entire plot. Both are awesome, but if you want the true story, go with Brotherhood!

They share the same starting point, but diverge significantly. Original series = anime-only ending. Brotherhood = follows the manga.

Brotherhood sticks to the manga, original Fullmetal diverges. Simple as that!
