I鈥檝e used both! Magma is awesome for destroying enemies quickly with area damage, but Phoenix lets you heal and stay alive much longer in intense battles.
Depends on what you like鈥攂rute force (Magma) or versatility and healing (Phoenix).
Magma is better if you want pure destruction. Phoenix is better if you want more utility and survivability.
