They're pretty much the same game, but Mortal Kombat XL includes all the downloadable content (DLC) characters and skins from Mortal Kombat X. So, XL is like the 'complete edition' with extra goodies!

Mortal Kombat XL is basically Mortal Kombat X but with all the DLCs bundled in. It's the deluxe version you wanna get if you want all the characters and skins right away.

Yeah, so I bought Mortal Kombat X first and then ended up getting XL later because I wanted all the DLC characters like Alien and Predator. Wish I'd just gone straight for XL from the start!
