Nope! Super Mario Galaxy is a Wii Remote + Nunchuk kind of game. Classic Controller isn't gonna cut it here.

Sorry, bud, Super Mario Galaxy doesn't support the Classic Controller. You'll need a Wii Remote and Nunchuk for this adventure!
