AAA all the way. Keep it simple.
Just to add a sprinkle of confusion, not all Hot Wheels need batteries. But when they do, it's typically AA or AAA. I've had a Hot Wheels RC car that ran on AA batteries and it was the star of the show until I had to replace them. Remember, the real juice is in the imagination (and a good stock of batteries).
