In the very first episode of One Piece, we're introduced to Monkey D. Luffy, our stretchy protagonist, who's caught in a barrel by a group of pirates led by Alvida. The episode also flashes back to Luffy's past, highlighting his encounter with the pirate Shanks, who leaves a lasting impact on him. Shanks gifts Luffy his iconic straw hat, which becomes a symbol of his dream to become the Pirate King. The episode kicks off Luffy's grand adventure to find the One Piece and assemble his own crew.

First ep of One Piece = Luffy in a barrel + meeting Alvida's pirates. We get a flashback to Luffy's childhood and his promise to Shanks, and see the start of his journey to become Pirate King.

First episode? Luffy pops out of a barrel on a pirate ship. It's all downhill from there. #NotAFan
