Simply put, it's the getaway car's gas money for your Pokémon to peace out from the front lines to the bench. High retreat cost = more gas needed!

Retreat cost is basically how much it 'costs' a Pokemon to get out of the fight and tag another one in. Low cost, easy swap. High cost, think twice.

Retreat on a Pokemon card is the cost you have to pay to swap that active Pokemon with one of your benched Pokemons during your turn. It's usually paid by discarding the required number of Energy cards attached to that Pokemon. So if you're planning to switch strategies mid-battle, better keep an eye on that retreat cost!

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
