Hands down, the best fishing rod you can snag in Terraria is the Golden Fishing Rod. It's got the highest fishing power of any rod in the game, making your fishing trips way more efficient. You gotta earn it by completing quests for the Angler NPC though. Not an easy feat, but totally worth it for the serious fishers out there.

Golden Fishing Rod, no contest. It's the cream of the crop when it comes to fishing in Terraria. But, don't sleep on the Sitting Duck's Fishing Pole. It's a solid choice until you can get your hands on the golden one.
I've used the Golden Fishing Rod and man, it's a game changer. Not only does it have the highest fishing power, but it also makes you feel like a pro angler. Took ages to get, but catching crates and rare fish has never been easier.
Why bother? Just use whatever rod you find first. Fishing's more about patience than power anyway.
