Development for GTA 6 definitely started way before they announced it. My guess? Around 2016. These games take ages to make!

2014, no doubt. Think about it - GTA 5 was a massive hit, they wouldn't waste time diving into the next big thing.

Rockstar Games officially announced GTA 6 development started a few years back but didn't give a specific date. Given the complexity of these games, it's safe to say it could've easily started as early as 2014 or 2015, right after GTA 5 launched.
