In Soul Eater, when someone dies, their soul can either be consumed by a Demon Weapon to increase its power, or they can become a Kishin if they deviate into madness.
Basically, your soul either gets gobbled up by a Weapon or turns into a Kishin. Not a fun afterlife, but it's a cool concept!
