Gintama characters are often based on historical Japanese figures, but with a twist! For example, Gintoki Sakata is a playful take on the famous samurai Sakata Kintoki.

Some of the Gintama characters are spoofs of famous historical persons. Gintoki Sakata, for example, is a humorous version of the legendary samurai Sakata Kintoki.

Many of the characters in Gintama are inspired by real historical figures from Japan's Edo period. Hijikata Toshirou, for instance, is based on Hijikata Toshizo, the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi.

Honestly, some of these characters are just wild versions of historical figures. You鈥檝e got to appreciate the creativity though!
