Giyu Tomioka has a heart-wrenching backstory. He loses his sister to a demon attack when he was too weak to protect her, and later his best friend Sabito dies saving him. That survivor's guilt sticks with him throughout the series.

Sanemi Shinazugawa has it rough too. He has to kill his mom after she turns into a demon and devours most of his siblings. That's got to mess a person up.

Honestly, they all have tragic stories, but if I had to pick, I'd say Gyomei Himejima. He loses the orphans he cares for to demons and gets wrongly accused of their deaths. Imagine losing everything and getting blamed for it!

Hot take: All the Hashira have sad stories, but Mitsuri Kanroji's isn't as tragic. Sure, societal pressure sucks, but at least she wasn't dealing with demon attacks on her family.

Muichiro Tokito, for sure. He loses his twin brother and doesn鈥檛 really remember much of their time together. The pain of losing a sibling and forgetting your bond sounds unbearable.
