Making sure the anime didn't catch up with the manga. Nobody likes a show with no source material!
Because they needed to let the manga get ahead. More manga, less filler - that's the dream!
The fillers help develop side characters and explore the world deeper. Also, it keeps the interest alive between major arcs.
Honestly, it's probably just to stretch the series for more episodes (and ad revenue). Still love Naruto tho!
