Had this happen to me once. Turned out I had a party member in an older game version. Make sure everyone's up-to-date!

It might be your internet connection acting up. Try rebooting your router or switching to a wired connection.
Are you in Split Screen mode? Sometimes, the second player can mess with the Ready Up function. Try exiting that mode.
