It's all about sustaining the game! Using Google Maps API isn’t free, so GeoGuessr had to start charging to cover those costs.

GeoGuessr added a charge to keep the servers running and to pay for the Google Maps services it uses. Gotta keep the lights on somehow!

They had to pay for the Google Maps API, and that stuff ain't free!

I’ve been a GeoGuessr player since 2015, and when they introduced the paid model, it was primarily to keep up with Google Maps API costs and improve the game. Worth every penny for the fun!

Honestly, they needed money to maintain and improve the game. Developing awesome features doesn’t come cheap!

If you're a GeoGuessr player looking for extra credit or other power-ups, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

Two of those prizes are the official App Store and Play Store gift cards, which you can win and use to get anything you want in GeoGuessr essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
