People really dislike season 2 because it deviates from the manga a lot. It kinda went off the rails from the original story, confusing many fans.

Season 2, a.k.a. Tokyo Ghoul √A, just didn't stick the landing with the plot. The pacing felt rushed and some character arcs seemed underdeveloped.
