Tekken 4 caught a lot of flak because it strayed too far from what fans loved about the earlier games. The uneven arenas and new mechanics made fights feel clunky and not as smooth as Tekken 3.

Most people didn’t like Tekken 4 'cuz it changed the gameplay too much. They couldn’t get used to the uneven stages and the slower pace.

I played Tekken 4 nonstop when it came out, but yeah, some of my friends hated it. The main complaint was the stages—they weren't flat and made movement awkward.
