It was a necessary sacrifice to prevent greater chaos! Boruto had to stop Momoshiki from gaining more power through Sasuke's Rinnegan.

To stop Momoshiki from wreaking havoc while he had control of Boruto's body. Sometimes you gotta break some Rinnegan to save the world.

Plot twist: Boruto saved the day by targeting the Rinnegan because Momoshiki was making things way too OP!

I was totally shocked when this happened! Boruto was forced to do it because Momoshiki was using him to get to Sasuke's Rinnegan, and it was the only way to stop the threat. Intense scene!
