Season 2 of Blue Exorcist, also known as the Kyoto Saga, sticks more closely to the manga than the first season did. After episode 17 of Season 1, the anime diverged from the manga, leading to an anime-original ending. Season 2 picks up where the manga storyline starts having major differences, so it can feel like a bit of a reset!

Honestly, Season 2 just decided to follow the manga more accurately, unlike the first season's later episodes.

Season 2 is basically a course correction. The first season went off on its own path after a certain point, so the second season aligns more with the original manga.

I have read the manga and watched both seasons. The second season sticks to the Kyoto Arc from the manga, making it feel different from the first season's anime-only storyline.
