CS:GO Prime was officially rolled out in April 2016. It was introduced as a way to improve matchmaking by attaching a phone number to CS:GO accounts, aiming to reduce the number of cheaters and smurfs players encounter. Plus, it made it a bit more exciting to reach level 21 because that's when you could finally get Prime status!
