The Pokemon TCG started including code cards in their booster packs with the release of the Black and White series in 2011. These codes let you unlock digital booster packs, cards, or theme decks in the online version of the game. Super handy for players who love collecting both physical and digital cards!

Actually, it was 2011 when they kicked off the whole code card thing. Black and White series was the game-changer, marking the bridge between the physical and digital worlds of Pokemon TCG. Before that, we just had to rely on buying physical packs or trading with friends.

2011, Black and White series. No debate. It was a neat addition to get more people into the online game.
