Tried it myself, but the PS5 just doesn't recognize the PS3 controller. The best bet is to get a DualSense or use a PS4 controller for PS4 games.

Unfortunately, you can't use a PS3 controller on a PS5 for playing games. The PS5 doesn't support older controllers except for the compatible PS4 DualShock 4, and even then, only for PS4 games. Happy gaming!
