I do this all the time! Plug the controller into the PS4 with a USB cable, press the PS button, and you’re good to go. For wireless, hold down the Share and PS buttons together until the light bar flashes, then pair it from the Bluetooth menu!
Honestly, just plug it in with a USB cable and hit the PS button. Done.
