Nope, you don't have to pay for a basic PlayStation Network account! However, you will need PS Plus for online multiplayer and extra goodies.

You only pay if you want the premium features like online multiplayer or monthly free games. Otherwise, it's free to just have an account.

I鈥檝e had a PSN account for years without paying a cent. It's only PlayStation Plus that costs money if you want those additional perks.
