Yes, for most games on PS4 and PS5, you'll need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online with friends. Exceptions exist though, like free-to-play games (e.g., Fortnite) which don't require Plus.

Yep, to access most online multiplayer features, you'll need PS Plus. But some free games don't require it.
