Just get PS Plus. It's worth it for the free games and discounts too. But yes, you'll need it for online play.

Yeah, you need a PS Plus membership to play most games online on the PS4. There are some free-to-play games that don't require it, but for the majority, you'll need that subscription.

As someone who鈥檚 been gaming on PS4 for years, I can confirm you definitely need PS Plus for online multiplayer. Totally worth it for the extra perks though!

Most of the time, yes. Some games don鈥檛 need it, but those are exceptions.
