Actually, you don't need WiFi specifically, but you do need some form of internet connection. Mobile data is more convenient when you're out and about.

WiFi is great for saving on data, but you can totally play Pokemon GO with mobile data too. I sometimes catch ‘em all on my lunch breaks with just 4G!

I only use mobile data for Pokémon GO and it works like a charm. Just make sure you have a decent data plan!
