Nope, the 40GB PS3 doesn't support PS2 games. Best bet is to go for the earlier 20GB or 60GB models if you want that feature.

Sadly, the 40GB PS3 can't play PS2 games. You're gonna need the 20GB or 60GB versions for that backward compatibility magic.

Straight up, no. My 40GB PS3 never played PS2 games. Stick with the 20GB or 60GB if you're looking for retro fun.
