Honestly, it's a bummer but true. Even to play solo, Fallout 76 requires PlayStation Plus because of its online nature.

Can confirm from my own experience - had to grab a PS Plus subscription just to start my adventure in Fallout 76. It's worth it though, exploring and rebuilding the world with friends adds a whole new level to the game!
