You don't need PSN to play Nioh's single-player campaign. However, if you want to engage in online Multiplayer or co-op missions, you'll need a PlayStation Plus subscription.

I played the entire Nioh story mode without PSN. Worked like a charm! But for online features, PS Plus is a must.
