From my experience, I've always been charged a few days before the game launches. So, no immediate hit to your wallet. Phew!

Nah, you get charged closer to the release date, not immediately.

Nope, PlayStation doesn't charge you right away for pre-orders. They typically charge a few days before the game's release. It's like a surprise bill, but with games. :)
