In mitosis, the chromosome number stays the same as the original cell. So, if you start with 46 chromosomes, you end with 46 chromosomes in each daughter cell. Science magic!

From personal experience in bio class, I can tell you each daughter cell ends up with the same number of chromosomes as the original cell. For humans, that's 46.
