In India, there is no separate service tax on food. However, you might see a Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 5% on restaurant bills if the restaurant is not air-conditioned. For air-conditioned ones, it can be 18%.

No more service tax on food, just GST now! Usually 5% for regular restaurants and 18% for the fancy, air-conditioned ones.

Used to be service tax, but now you only pay GST: 5% for non-AC and 18% for AC restaurants. Simple!
