From my experience, casting Petrificus Totalus is all about timing and aiming. You gotta make sure you're locked on with R3 and then press the button you've assigned the spell to. It’s kinda cool to see your enemies freeze up on the spot!

Honestly, just spam the spell button once it's assigned. With how chaotic battles can get, you'll hit it eventually.
