You can't really 'clear' the chat permanently unless you leave the game and rejoin. It refreshes then.

Just hit the '/' key to open the chat, then scroll up or down to find the clear chat button on the right!

Trust me, I've tried everything. The only way to get a fresh chat is to hop out of the game and jump back in.
