How to Connect PS3 to WiFi with Ethernet Cable
You can't connect a PS3 to WiFi using an ethernet cable. It’s either WiFi or wired, not both at once. Just go to Settings > Network Settings and choose either WiFi or Wired Connection.

Ethernet cable for wired, WiFi for wireless. Pick one.
I’ve connected my PS3 to the internet both ways. Simply, use an ethernet cable for a wired connection or go to Network Settings for WiFi. Easy peasy!
Connecting a PS3 to WiFi with an ethernet cable is like trying to use a fork as a spoon. If you want a wired connection, just plug the ethernet cable into your router and PS3. If you want WiFi, skip the cable and set up WiFi in the Network Settings.
