You gotta visit the Instagram delete account page from a browser. Head to instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent/ and follow the instructions. That's how you do it!
Trust me, I've done it. Just go to the special page on Instagram through Safari or Chrome on your iPhone, and you're set!
Instagram doesn't actually let you delete your account directly from the app. You need to do it via a web browser.
