actually, sometimes just hitting Alt+F4 works if you're looking to close it quickly. Not the 'official' way but hey, it gets the job done.

To exit Steam Big Picture mode, just hit the 'Esc' key on your keyboard and look for the 'Exit Big Picture' option on the top right corner of your screen. Click that, and you'll be back to the regular Steam interface in no time.
